Lukashenko Becomes Belarus President for Seventh Time

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Alexander Lukashenko was sworn in for a seventh term as the president of Belarus.

The inauguration ceremony took place at the Ceremonial Hall, the largest venue in the Palace of Independence in Minsk, the nation's capital.

More than 1,100 visitors were welcomed to the event, and just before Lukashenko's arrival, the national flag of Belarus as well as the presidential standard were placed into the hall.

Lukashenko took the oath of office with his right hand on the Constitution, then started playing the national anthem.

The chairman of the Central Election Commission then presented Lukashenko with the official certificate confirming his presidency.

Lukashenko was re-elected president during the elections on January 26, where he secured over 5.1 million votes, amounting to almost 87 percent of the overall votes cast.

The commission authorized the results officially during a meeting on February 3.
